If I could I would keep this dim sum eatery a secret but that would make me a bad friend, and I hate to go all Brenda Walsh on you guys so here it is. Chatham SQ. not to be mistaken for Chatham Restaurant (http://cheapassfood.com/eats/show/70)
No, no Chatham SQ is now the dim sum place to eat in Chinatown. Before I stubble onto this I would frequent Dim Sum GO GO or if I was feeling super low on cash it was Chatham Rest. Been to Unicorn and Oriental didn’t like it at all, some people have told me they were good before but the quality went way down.
Wanting a little change this Sunday we went into Chatham Sq. Restaurant instead of our usual. Very first thing I noticed about C Sq. is that the place is very clean and has a very warm feeling, their lighting is not the typical florescent lighting - no this place has class with its golden dragon welcoming you in to dine with them. Once we were seated we picked out our tea and moments later I saw the tender old ladies with the steam carts walking our way. Surprised to find all the dim sum ladies speaking English I didn’t have to relay on Kenneth like I do in most Chinese restaurants.
Our first miniature snacks of the day were…
- Baked Pork Puff a traditional pork bun filling but with puff pastry on the outer edge. It was sweet, warm and the filling was just right not too sweet, and came in 3s.
- “Chicken Bundle”, chicken, ham, taro, fish stomach (some places use baby bamboo) wrapped in bean curd skin roll, this I am not too familiar with but Kenneth said it was very good.
- Shrimp Dumplings, perfect little gems nested with slivered bamboo shoots
- Pan Fried Green Onions and Shrimp Dumpling, came tender and juicy
By this point I was starting to feel full but everything came out so perfect we just keep on ordering.
The next round of items were more decadent then our stables:
- Bacon Shrimp Rolls are these little shrimp balls warped in bacon, anything taste good in bacon – but shrimp is ultimate.
- Thousand Years Egg with Salted Pork Congee was rich and thick porridge that suck to our ribs.
Over all I loved the food, the service is one of the best in Chinatown that I have encountered as a non-Chinese person, and the ambiance is warm I never felt rushed.

Prices:
Small $1.95, Medium $2.50, Large $3.25, XL $3.75
We ordered 7 dishes, 4 medium and 3 large and the bill came out to only $20 which I think is a great deal and the tea was free that day, possibly the teas are free on the weekends.
Interestingly enough they have 7 flat screens TV, Kenneth says it’s for the wedding banquets when they sing karaoke for entertainment.
