The Battle of the Dumplings
My first stop is conveniently located on the same street as my apt, “Dumpling” on 25 B Henry Street (cross st. Catherine) ny, ny 10002. It’s about 10:30am and I take my first bite of the tender, moist, juicy dumpling. Filled mostly with Pork and green onion, I think it beats cold pizza in the morning, which I m sure a lot of you guys would disagree with. Anyhoo you can get 5 pan-fried dumplings for 1 whole dollar, which you can accompany, with vinegar, soy sauce mixture and/ cock sauce also know as Sriracha. I LOVE me some cock sauce.
I thought the 5 dumplings would fill my belly but it didn’t do the trick, I had a semi hard night of drinking … and the belly want what the belly wants. More dumplings are what I am carving and it so happens to be my lucky day across the street and around the corner is Sweet Spring Restaurant. They have various things but since I am having a battle of the dumplings ( and because I only have a dollar left in pocket) I ll go for the pork and onion dumplings. Located on 25 A Catherine St ( cross street Henry) ny, ny 10002. I go in for my 6th dumpling of the morning and it is quit different from “Dumpling”, the bottom of this dumpling is very crisp and has a nice tooth to it while maintaining its nice soft shell. The sauce is also different, I am guessing it is made of soy sauce and corn syrup, also in it are bits hot peppers, but not too hot.

Days later after … I stumble in
East Broadway Restaurant Inc. located on 94B east Broadway, which is not my typical dumpling route however it’s the only place open after hours in Chinatown, you can see drunk Asians swaying around with their rosy hues. And since I was drunk once again I needed to fill my belly with some thing and it so happened that the steam dumpling were the only item on the menu not over $5. Well that s not true, but I thought I might as well test the waters see how good their dumplings compared. Back home I started to consume, all 12 dumplings in 2 seconds - anything is possible when you’re intoxicated. I have to say even in my drunken faze they were the best dumplings I had in a long time. Can’t get a better deal for $3.75 plus, you get to see young drunk Asians just as messed up as you.
Weeks later after 50 dumplings …
I realize that the battle of the dumplings is overwhelming, because there is so much dumplings a girl can take and too many dumpling houses to pick from. Over all if you go to any dumpling establishment in Chinatown 9 out 10 time it will be very, very good. I hate to back out of a challenge so from time to time Ill post more dumpling house as time passes. In the mean time please tell us bout your favorite dumplings houses in Chinatown or in China. Happy Dumpling
