REVIEWS:
Jaya is a great little bistro style restaurant with outdoor and indoor
seating, with great cheap food. I'm not Malaysian but I find the food at Jaya to be very authentic and delicious.
Recommend starting your meal with a homemade roti chanal that comes with Indian pancake ($3.50), a spicy stew-like curry with chicken. As an entrée I got the String Beans and Tofu In Thai Chill Paste with Rice (lunch $5.95 and dinner $6.95), can not beat the price, and the dish is amazing, slightly on the sweet side with a kick of heat, finishing off with a hint of fermented black beans flavor.

But besides the great food one can get a great dinner show while dining outdoors, Jaya is located only a block away from the detention center of lower Manhattan. So once in a blue moon you can see a yellow school bus full of pirated dvd sellers, Chanel hand bag distributors, your typical boozers and pickpockets. Also enjoy the newly renovated Columbus Park, all year around old men play Chinese chess or find a collective of Chinese musicians that play for free for everybody’s enjoyment.
