Darin
Couple of nights ago Cheap Ass Food met up with one of our favorite food posters/eater/producer Darin in Brooklyn. Since his last post there has been lost of comments and talk over good Mexican food in NYC. I myself have had lost of disappointing experiences and here comes Darin with one of the best recommendation for Mexican Bodega in Manhattan.

Once we arrived at Mexico 2000 I noticed it was reminiscent of Tehuitzingo, a deli in the front and a small two table sit down at the back. As we chatted away about food and life in New York, I was feeling like we have been old friends shooting the shit, throwing back some beers. Us gringo were comforted by the warm welcome of the owners as well as the patrons, who had no problems with us grabbing some Negro Modelo from the fridge as if we were home.
We ordered all sorts of tacos ranging from Carnitas, Al Pastor, Carne Asada to Cecina, all were top with lettuce, tomatoes, salsa and lots of Mexican cheese. In addition I ordered Al Pastor Taco Salad and Darin ordered Guacamole and Chips. Note if you’re a fan of deep fried stuff it’s a must to get the chips and guacamole – it is not pre fried- Mexico 2000 fries it up upon each order, might take some time but worth the wait.

When the food arrived the chatter stopped and we got down to business, what can I say it was Amazing! The food is so good you have to take our word for it.
Total came to $35!!!! for all that food and beers - it’s a steal! In the works is a Mexico 2000 restaurant some time in the year 2000 (sorry bad joke) the owner told us it should be ready by the end of this year, right next to the deli.
We want to Thank Darin for all the good cheap eats that he has provided for the all us cheap Asses – thanks! We’re cheap sorry no consolation prizes just lots of love. If you would like to know more about Darin and what he does (in addition eating) check out this link!
