Cheap has never looked so good, Café Zaiya located on 18 E 41st Street, is one of my favorite eateries of all time. If you too are a fan of Japanese food you will not regret going to Café Zaiya, I love to go and stare, if I could I would look all day long, it’s like porn to me. Do be prepared not to drool over the food, and get your ass in gear, during lunchtime it gets CRAZY busy.
This midsize mini mall/bodega is divided into different section, once you enter you see a papa beard to your left, prepackaged sushi open fridge, around the center is a hot buffet of Japanese curries and random stuff, and to your right is the pastry station. Today I felt like eating little snacks so I went for the veggie croquette and konbu onigiri otherwise know as seaweed rice ball wrapped in nori.

The croquette ($1.50) was perfectly fried up, flakey crispy outside with soft fluffy mashed potato, peas and yellow corn inside. The rice ball ($1.25) was decent, the rice was flavored very well, but the stuffing was lackluster, if you’re a fan of the balls I suggest going to OMS/b www.cheapassfood.com/eats/show/141
While eating my snacks I was pondering other goodies to eats, love papa beard and those fried veggie stuffed doughnuts are also one of my favorites, but all the little things do add up so be careful not to go overboard like I usually do.
Tip: if you do decide to get the rice ball, be very very careful, I fuckedup the instructions and was left with a wad of rice with the nori stuck to the plastic wrap.
